Team Sigma Expectations
“Do not handicap your children by making their life easy.” Robert A. Heinlein
Who to contact about what- If it is a class/subject area issue please contact that specific teacher. If it is an overall 7th grade, social, behavioral, academic, medical, etc. concern please contact their advisor.
Homework / Planners – Because the students no longer are provided planners we have set up a website and Calendar with each of our class’s agenda & homework expectations for the week. (You can get to these by going to the W-SR schools homepage> Schools>Middle School> Team Pages> Sigma.) Kids should be checking this daily for updates and changes. These calendars have also been synced to their iPad calendars so internet access is not essential. Homework is always one of the bigger challenges facing 7th graders. They struggle with remembering to take it home, doing it, and turning it in on time. Please become familiar with our team web pages and calendars so you can be best informed.
Absences – Students will have the number of days they are absent plus one to make up any work. If it is a planned absence we ask that they talk to each of us individually a week before to make any necessary homework arrangements.
Extra Help – If your child is struggling to understand something or needs some guidance in catching up on homework we encourage them to work with us during Advisory or Study Halls. If more time is still needed they are welcome to arrange a time to meet with us before school (7:45-8:15) or after (3:25-3:45).
Grades – You are able to check their grades at any time using Infinite Campus. If you do not know your username and password please contact the middle school office.
iPads- If students are using their iPads inappropriately at any time, in any way, we will take it away for the period or the day. This could include excessive or inappropriate email use. It will be up to the student to find their own way to complete all necessary work that they might have missed do to their lack of an iPad. If an iPad has been taken away from your child we will do our best to inform you.
Cell Phones- The handbook states that students are not to use cells phones from 8:00- 3:24 for any reason unless given permission. Therefore, as stated in the handbook if we see or hear their cell phone we will- a. First Offense: Student may pick up the phone after school from the office or the teacher who confiscated the phone. b. Second Offense: Application of consequences as in (a) above, parents notified, and the parent will be required to pick up the phone from the office.
c. Third Offense: All consequences above (a & b) as well as 3 hours of school-based community service.
We understand that 7th & 8th grade aren't always easy for our students or those trying to raise them. We hope that you will find the Middle School and the teachers of Sigma to be a supportive staff in which you can rely on to help your child become an independent and lifelong learner.
